Cheesy Garlic Bread

Recipe type: Side Dish, Appetizer

Ingredients
  • Fresh french bread
  • 1½ tablespoon Lawry's garlic spread (contains dairy)
  • 1½ tablespoon soft spread butter substitute (margarine)
  • 1 cup low-fat mixed shredded cheese (or try Daiya brand cheese for a vegetarian alternative)
Instructions
  1. I scoop out the Lawry's garlic spread and margarine ahead of time to let them soften.
  2. Pre-heat oven to LOW broil.
  3. Slice french bread on the diagonal in desired thickness.  Spread out the slices on a sheet of aluminum over a cookie sheet.  I highly recommend using foil because the cheese gets messy.
  4. Mix the garlic spread and margarine using a butter knife, until they're completely mixed and smooth.
  5. Spread the garlic mixture over the bread in generous amounts.
  6. Spread shredded cheese over the bread.  I use a 5-cheese Mexican blend.
  7. Pop the bread into the oven for 3 - 4 minutes.  Please turn your oven light on, and don't walk away from the oven.  The bread and cheese brown VERY quickly on low broil.  In no time, your bread will be crisp, golden and cheesy!
